Step 2: In stock pot
Step 3: Saute the onions in oil add ham and garlic
Step 4: Cook until the onions turn opaque
Step 5: Measure the water from beans to 6 cups
Step 6: Add to onions mixture
Step 7: Add everything but vinegar
Step 8: Simmer for 4 hours until beans are soft
Step 9: Add vinegar and season to taste
