  • 6 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 cup onions,chopped
  • 4 ounces ham,cubed
  • 1 clove garlic,smashed
  • 2 cups celery,chopped
  • 1 cup carrots,chopped
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 cups beef stock
  • 2 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons cider vinegar

How to Make

  • Step 1: Soak beans for several hours in water

  • Step 2: In stock pot

  • Step 3: Saute the onions in oil add ham and garlic

  • Step 4: Cook until the onions turn opaque

  • Step 5: Measure the water from beans to 6 cups

  • Step 6: Add to onions mixture

  • Step 7: Add everything but vinegar

  • Step 8: Simmer for 4 hours until beans are soft

  • Step 9: Add vinegar and season to taste
