The ingredients are:
  • 1 quart sauerkraut
  • 1/2 cup onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices (4 ounces) bacon (lean)
  • 7 ounces apples, sliced (2 cups)
  • 1 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1/2 cup beef stock
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350F.

  • Step 2: Cook bacon in skillet until crisp.

  • Step 3: Remove from drippings and set aside.

  • Step 4: Saute the onions in the bacon drippings until lightly browned.

  • Step 5: Stir the sauerkraut into the drippings and onion and add the apples.

  • Step 6: Pour in the wine and stock and bake for 30 minutes.

  • Step 7: Crumble the bacon and add the sugar and celery seed.

  • Step 8: Bake for another half hour and serve.
