The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 pound smoked sausage
  • 1 loaf (16 ounce) rye bread (party rye bread)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup Thousand Island Salad Dressing
  • 16 ounces sauerkraut
  • 10 slices (10 ounces) Swiss cheese

How to Make

  • Step 1: Slice sausage into 1/4 inch pieces.

  • Step 2: Drain the sauerkraut.

  • Step 3: Cut cheese slices into 1/2-inch x 2-1/2-inch strips.

  • Step 4: Melt butter in small skillet.

  • Step 5: Brush rye bread with butter on both sides.

  • Step 6: Place on baking sheet.

  • Step 7: Toast at 400F for 5 minutes. Turn.

  • Step 8: Remove from oven and build Reubens ending with criss-crossed cheese slices on top.

  • Step 9: Bake for 5-10 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly.
