  • 2 pounds dried pinto beans
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups onions, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons salt,
  • 1 teaspoons black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoons cumin seed
  • 1 can (12 ounces)taco sauce
  • 1 can( 7 ounces)green chiles,chopped
  • 1 can (28 ounces)stewed tomatoes

How to Make

  • Step 1: Wash beans and soak in cold water overnight.

  • Step 2: Drain off water and cover with fresh water 2 inches over beans in a large kettle.

  • Step 3: Place on stove and bring to a boil and cook one hour.

  • Step 4: Add water as needed

  • Step 5: Add remaining ingredients

  • Step 6: Except for beef if using

  • Step 7: Simmer and cook four to six hours longer,

  • Step 8: Add ground beef the last hour or two before serving.
