Step 1: Sort and wash chickpeas and then place them in a saucepan covered with water (water level should be 2 inches above the chickpeas) and bring to a boil. Cook for 5 minutes or until tender; drain.
Step 2: In a large skillet het the oil over medium heat and then add the next 3 ingredients (-garlic) and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the next three ingredients (-pepper) and cook for another minute. Stir in chickpeas, broth and tomato and continue cooking for 5 minutes or until liquid evaporates. Remove from heat and stir in cilantro and the garam masala.
