Step 1: Beat egg and egg white well.
Step 2: Cream butter and sugar.
Step 3: Add beaten egg, then the bran.
Step 4: Mix thoroughly, then let stand for 2 or 3 minutes until bran is softened.
Step 5: Combine water and mashed bananas.
Step 6: Add alternately with the sifted dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking powder, and soda) to the butter-sugar-egg-bran mixture.
Step 7: Mix thoroughly, then add vanilla extract and chopped nuts.
Step 8: Spread batter evenly in greased 9x5x3-inch loaf pan. Loaf pan may be lined with waxed paper if desired.
Step 9: Bake in pre-heated 350' F. oven 1 hour.
