Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 4 ounces dry white rice (= ½ cup)
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2.5 ounces chopped onion (= ½ cup)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil (or less for browning)
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt (or celery seed)
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 can (15 ounce) tomato sauce

How to Make

  • Step 1: In large bowl combine the meat, rice, ½ cup of water, and onion.

  • Step 2: Blend in the salt, celery salt or celery seed, garlic powder, and pepper. Mix well.

  • Step 3: Shape into 1½-inch balls.

  • Step 4: Preheat oven to 350' F.

  • Step 5: In large skillet over medium heat, brown the meatballs in the oil. Drain off the fat.

  • Step 6: In an 11"x7" baking dish, combine the tomato sauce and 1 cup of water.

  • Step 7: Put the browned meatballs into the tomato sauce, turning to coat well.

  • Step 8: Cover and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

  • Step 9: Uncover and cook an additional 15 minutes.
