Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
  • 1/4 pound soft butter (= ½ cup)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk (or more)
  • 8 to 10 drops red food coloring (to produce a yellow color - OPTIONAL)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine 1/3 of the sugar with the butter and salt in a large bowl.

  • Step 2: Blend the vanilla, 2 tablespoons of milk, and the remaining sugar into the mixture.

  • Step 3: Gradually stir in the remaining milk until desired spreading consistency is reached.

  • Step 4: To color, blend in about 8-10 drops of food coloring.

  • Step 5: This makes enough frosting for two 9"-round layer cakes. For a more generous supply of frosting, increase all of the ingredients by ¼.
