Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 8 ounces onion (chopped, = 1 medium onion)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable oil)
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (Hungarian)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 7 ounces rice (brown, dry)
  • 7.5 ounces lentils (dried, sorted and washed = 1 cup)
  • 4 cups water

How to Make

  • Step 1: In large saucepan sauté onion and garlic in oil.

  • Step 2: Add spices. Cook over low heat 4 minutes.

  • Step 3: Add rice and lentils. Mix well.

  • Step 4: Add water. Bring to a boil.

  • Step 5: Lower heat. Cook 45-50 minutes, covered, until rice and lentils are tender.
