Step 1: Whisk the first 5 ingredients together in a shallow bowl.
Step 2: One at a time, add the bread slices, turning them until thoroughly saturated but not disintegrating.
Step 3: Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Step 4: Add the bread slices to the skillet, using as many as will fit without crowding, and cook until underside is golden brown.
Step 5: Turn the bread and cook until the other side is golden.
Step 6: Serve immediately or keep warm in a 200' F. oven while you cook the rest.
Step 7: Dust each slice with powdered sugar if desired.
Step 8: Serve with pure maple syrup or jelly of choice.
