Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 6 ounces bread (6 slices, with or without crusts)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

How to Make

  • Step 1: Whisk the first 5 ingredients together in a shallow bowl.

  • Step 2: One at a time, add the bread slices, turning them until thoroughly saturated but not disintegrating.

  • Step 3: Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.

  • Step 4: Add the bread slices to the skillet, using as many as will fit without crowding, and cook until underside is golden brown.

  • Step 5: Turn the bread and cook until the other side is golden.

  • Step 6: Serve immediately or keep warm in a 200' F. oven while you cook the rest.

  • Step 7: Dust each slice with powdered sugar if desired.

  • Step 8: Serve with pure maple syrup or jelly of choice.
