Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 400 grams onions (baby onions, peeled but left whole, 14 ounces)
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely sliced
  • 1 tablespoon thyme, finely chopped (fresh)
  • 3 tablespoons vinegar, balsamic
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (or chili oil, to drizzle for serving)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat the oven to 180dg C. (350F/Gas4)

  • Step 2: Heat the oil in a deep sided fry pan, then add the onions and cook over a low heat, stirring the onions frequently for 15 minutes or until the onions evenly brown.

  • Step 3: When cooked transfer the onions to a small baking dish, packing them in tightly and sprinkle with the garlic and thyme, then spoon over the balsamic vinegar.

  • Step 4: Season with a little salt and pepper to taste and bake in the oven for 20 minutes; stirring onions every 5 minutes.

  • Step 5: When ready to serve drizzle over the olive oil or chili oil. Serve hot or cold.
