The ingredients are:
  • 2 cups onions, chopped
  • 3 tablespoon lard
  • 1 pound stewing beef
  • 1 teaspoons ground caraway
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 jar (32 ounces) sauerkraut
  • 1 1/4 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoons pepper, to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: Melt lard ,

  • Step 2: Cook onions over a slow heat until softened.

  • Step 3: Chop meat into cubes and add to onion, as well as caraway and bay leaf.

  • Step 4: Brown meat,

  • Step 5: Then add paprika and quickly pour beef stock over (paprika burns quickly),

  • Step 6: Cover with the lid, and let simmer, 1 hr for pork, 3-4 hrs for beef.

  • Step 7: Coarsely chop sauerkraut so you don't have long strings

  • Step 8: And add to simmering pot, until the sauerkraut is soft, about 20 min.

  • Step 9: Just before serving

  • Step 10: Add the cream and the sour cream
