Step 1: Cream together butter and sugar.
Step 2: Beat in eggs, one at a time.
Step 3: Stir in vanilla.
Step 4: Sift together dry ingredients: flour, cream of tartar, salt, baking soda, cocoa powder.
Step 5: Add dry ingredients and water alterately to butter mixture.
Step 6: Stir in sauerkraut.
Step 7: Pour into a greased and floured 9×13 inch pan.
Step 8: Bake at 350º for 35-40 minutes.
