Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 300 grams relish (caramelised onion relish, store bought 1 cup)
  • 1 teaspoon thyme leaves
  • 1 litre beef stock
  • Sea salt
  • Cracked black pepper
  • 1 loaf (300 grams) baguette bread (1 cut into 12 slices)
  • 1/4 cup sage leaves
  • 125 grams gruyère cheese (grated 1 cup)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Place the onion and thyme in a medium saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring, for 3 minutes and then add the stock, salt and pepper and bring to the boil.

  • Step 2: Preheat a grill (broiler) to high.

  • Step 3: Divide the soup between 4 small serving bowls.

  • Step 4: Top the bread with, sage and cheese and place on a tray and grill/broil for 2 minutes or until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.

  • Step 5: Sprinkle with cracked black pepper to serve.
