Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • 3 tablespoons almonds, blanched and finely chopped (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Beat butter till fluffy. Add brown sugar, baking powder, spices, and salt and beat until combined. Add in egg yolk and milk, beating to combine. Beat in as much of the flour as you can, then stir in remaining flour and almonds.

  • Step 2: Divide dough in half, cover and chill about 1 hr, or until easy to handle

  • Step 3: Preheat oven to 350F and lightly grease a cookie sheet

  • Step 4: Press a small amount of the dough into an oiled cookie mold. Unmold onto prepared cookie sheet (you may need to tap mold on the counter to get it to release). Alternately, you can roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to a 1/8 thickness and cutout with desired cutters

  • Step 5: Bake 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden. Cool on cookie sheets on wire rack for 1 minute, then transfer to wire racks

  • Step 6: If desired, decorate with powdered sugar glaze
