Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate (coarsely chopped)
  • 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate (coarsely chopped)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon instant espresso coffee powder (or instant coffee crystals)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips (pieces)
  • FOR CHOCOLATE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips (pieces)
  • 1 package (3 ounce) cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • Chocolate-covered coffee beans, coarsely chopped (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a medium saucepan cook and stir butter, bittersweet chocolate, and unsweetened chocolate over low heat until melted and smooth.

  • Step 2: Remove from heat and cool.

  • Step 3: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • Step 4: Line an 8x8x2-inch baking pan with heavy foil, extending the foil over edges of pan. Grease foil

  • Step 5: Stir sugar into cooled chocolate mixture.

  • Step 6: Add eggs, one at a time, beating with a wooden spoon just until combined.

  • Step 7: Stir in coffee powder and vanilla.

  • Step 8: In a small bowl stir together flour, baking soda, and salt.

  • Step 9: Add flour mixture to chocolate mixture, stirring just until combined.

  • Step 10: Stir in semisweet chocolate pieces. Spread batter evenly in the prepared baking pan.

  • Step 11: Bake for 30 minutes.

  • Step 12: Cool in pan on a wire rack.

  • Frosting

  • Step 13: In a small saucepan, heat and stir semisweet chocolate pieces over low heat until smooth.

  • Step 14: Remove from heat; let cool.

  • Step 15: In a medium bowl, stir together cream cheese and powdered sugar.

  • Step 16: Stir in melted chocolate until smooth.

  • Step 17: Spread Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting over cooled brownies.

  • Step 18: Using edges of foil, lift brownies out of pan.

  • Step 19: Cut into bars.

  • Step 20: If desired, sprinkle with chopped coffee beans.
