Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 pounds potatoes (1 kilogram new potatoes)
  • 1 onion
  • 3 scallions
  • 4 ounces grated cheddar cheese (120 grams)
  • 4 ounces grated Gruyere cheese (or Gouda, 120 grams)
  • 8 ounces cubed smoked ham (240 grams)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

How to Make

  • Step 1: Wash the unpeeled potatoes and thinly slice them.

  • Step 2: Peel and chop the onion and scallions and saute them in the heated oil till light brown.

  • Step 3: Put a layer of potato slices in a non-greased oven dish.

  • Step 4: Sprinkle half of the ham, cheese and onions on it; add another layer of potato slices and the remainder of the ham and cheese. Add more layers if you wish.

  • Step 5: Pour the cream in a saucepan and add the paprika and mustard; season with salt and pepper. Heat the cream below boiling and pour it over the potato-ham-cheese dish.

  • Step 6: Put in a preheated over at 215C / 425F and bake for 45 minutes.
