Step 1: Drain asparagus spears, reserving 1/2 cup of the liquid.
Step 2: Heat butter in a saucepan. Add flour; blend.
Step 3: Gradually pour in asparagus liquid and milk.
Step 4: Stir constantly over low heat until sauce thickens and bubbles.
Step 5: Add cooked ham and seasonings.
Step 6: Gently stir in asparagus spears; heat through but do NOT boil.
Step 7: Serve in preheated serving dish.
