How to Make

  • Step 1: Rinse and drain cherries.

  • Step 2: Discard stems and pit the cherries.

  • Step 3: In a medium saucepan, add water and brown sugar; bring to a simmer.

  • Step 4: Add red wine and lemon zest.

  • Step 5: Bring back to a simmer and cook for 3 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

  • Step 6: Add the pitted cherries; let mixture return to a simmer for 2 minutes.

  • Step 7: Remove from heat, cover with a lid, and let cool to room temperature.

  • Step 8: After mixture has cooled, refrigerate over night.

  • Step 9: Spoon cherries and liquid into individual serving bowls.

  • Step 10: Serve with your favorite wafers, cookies or ice cream.
