Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • FOR SAUCE
  • 4 1/2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (Sriracha hot sauce)
  • FOR FILLING
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger root (freshly grated)
  • 2 spring onions, chopped
  • 500 grams ground (beef mince, "or can use turkey or chicken")
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables (or and fruit eg water chestnuts, green apple, frozen peas, red capsicum or grated carrot suggested)
  • 1 head iceberg lettuce ( or romaine lettuce)

How to Make

  • Step 1: FOR THE SAUCE - combine all the ingredients for the sauce in a small bowl and mix to blend.

  • Step 2: Heat a frying pan on high heat with oil and once the pan is hot, add the garlic, ginger and white part of the spring onions to the frying pan and stir fry for a few seconds or just until fragrant and then add the mince, breaking into small pieces, and sautee until almost cooked through.

  • Step 3: Add the vegetables and sauce to the frying pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes and immediately remove the frying pan from the heat and serve the filling in lettuce cups or over rice.
