Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/4 cup bacon grease
  • 1 cup onions,chopped fine
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped fine
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper,chopped fine
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 8 ounces ham,minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, minced
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 package (16 ounces) dried red beans
  • 1 clove garlic,smashed
  • 1 package (16 ounce) smoked sausage

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat bacon grease

  • Step 2: Add onions, celery and bell pepper

  • Step 3: Saute on very low heat for about 15 minutes ,until lightly browned

  • Step 4: Add ham ,garlic and spices

  • Step 5: Cook for 5 minutes more

  • Step 6: Add water and bay leaf and beans

  • Step 7: Bring up to a boil

  • Step 8: Turn down to low and simmer

  • Step 9: Stirring occasionally

  • Step 10: The closer to done the more stirring you need to do ,may need to add water

  • Step 11: Last 30 minutes add smoked sausage and parsley

  • Step 12: When serving take out bay leaf and sausage, cut sausage into bite pieces
