Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 (600 grams) beef sirloin steaks (4 x 150 grams each)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 400 grams gai lan (1 bunch fresh)
  • 1 tablespoon oil (vegetable oil)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup miso paste (sweet white)
  • 200 grams green beans, trimmed
  • 200 grams snow peas, trimmed
  • 1 tablespoons sesame seeds (toasted)
  • Steamed jasmine rice, to serve

How to Make

  • Step 1: Toss beef with sesame oil in a bowl.

  • Step 2: Trim gai lan and cut crossways into thirds and then separate leaves and stems, cutting larger stems lengthways in half.

  • Step 3: Heat a large, deep, non-stick frying pan over a medium to high heat and add beef and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your liking and remove to rest, loosely covered with foil, for 5 minutes.

  • Step 4: Meanwhile, heat vegetable oil in same frying pan over a medium heat and add garlic and miso paste and cook, stirring, for 30 seconds and then add beans and gai lan stems with 2 tablespoons water. and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 2 minutes, or until just tender and then add snow peas and gai lan leaves and cook, stirring, for a further 2 minutes, or until just wilted.

  • Step 5: Serve beef with rice, vegetables and pan juices and sprinkle over seeds.
