Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 6 (18 ounces) ham hocks (3 ounces each)
  • 2 ounces sliced bacon (2 slices,chopped)
  • 2 cups onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, smashed
  • 1 dried hot pepper
  • 1 can (8 ounce) tomato sauce
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 package (16 ounce) kidney beans (dried, soaked overnight)
  • 6 cups cooked rice

How to Make

  • Step 1: Soak beans overnight

  • Step 2: In large stock pot, put the ham hocks in 6 cups water. Boil for 1 hour, covered

  • Step 3: Drain beans and add to pot

  • Step 4: Add veggies and seasonings

  • Step 5: Add bacon and tomato sauce

  • Step 6: Rinse out can with water and add to pot

  • Step 7: Simmer 3 hours until beans are soft

  • Step 8: Stirring occasionally adding water when needed

  • Step 9: Will need to turn down heat as it thickens and beans are closer to done ,will also stir more often so they dont burn, dont let the pot go dry,needs to be fluid
