Step 1: Sift the first 5 ingredients and stir in the raisins or currants.
Step 2: Combine the eggs, the buttermilk, and the butter. Beat.
Step 3: Add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients and mix just enough to moisten thoroughly.
Step 4: Turn the batter into a greased 9x5½x3" loaf pan and bake at 350'F. for about 1 hour.
Step 5: Remove from pan immediately. It's important to allow the loaf to cool thoroughly before slicing.
