Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 3/4 cups chopped yellow onions
  • 6 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons minced jalapeno peppers (chile peppers, seeded)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons molasses (mild-flavored or light)
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin, ground
  • 1 can ( (28 ounce) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup brewed coffee

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a saucepan over medium high heat heat the oil and then add the next 3 ingredients (-jalapeno); saluting for 5-10 minutes or until onion is tender. Sri in the next 5 ingredients (-cumin), stirring until sugar dissolves. Stir in tomatoes, broth and the coffee and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer until sauce is reduced to 4 cups (30-40 minutes). Season with salt and pepper.

  • Step 2: ***can be made one week ahead, covered and chilled.
