Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable oil)
  • 1 jar (350 gram) pasta sauce (tomato garlic and herb was suggested)
  • 900 grams baguette breads (2 x 450 grams garlic baguettes)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • FOR MEATBALLS
  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup dried breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (finely grated)
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup parsley, finely chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: To make meatballs combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well.

  • Step 2: Roll two level tablespoons of mixture into balls (you should have 16 meatballs)

  • Step 3: Heat oil in a large frying pan over a medium to high heat and add meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, for about 5 minutes, or until browned all over and then transfer balls to a large bowl and add sauce and stir to coat.

  • Step 4: Cut baguettes into slices and discard the ends and arrange an oven tray lined with baking paper and top with meatballs and sprinkle with cheese and cook in a moderately hot oven (190C) for about 15 minutes, or until bread is crisp.
