Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 bag (1 pound) dried navy beans
  • 8 ounce ham hock
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 2 cups potato, diced
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup green pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup tomato juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large bowl, put in beans cover with enough water to go about 2 inches above the beans.

  • Step 2: Cover, set aside to soak overnight - or at least 8 hours. Drain and rinse beans.

  • Step 3: In a large pot put beans, ham hock, salt and water. Simmer for three hours.

  • Step 4: Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer for an hour longer.
