Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 tablespoon seasoning ( bush spice seasoning )
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (smoked paprika)
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon rind
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil (extra virgin)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 600 grams beef sirloin (or rump steaks, 4 x 150 grams)
  • 2 red onions (sliced into rings)
  • Pineapple (1/2 pineapple, peeled and thinly sliced)
  • 240 grams sliced sourdough bread (8 slices, crusty)
  • Olive oil cooking spray
  • 1/4 cup low-fat mayonnaise (whole-egg mayonnaise)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 can (225 gram) beetroot, sliced (drained)
  • 4 butter lettuce leaves
  • 2 tablespoon barbecue sauce (smokey)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine bush spice, paprika, lemon rind, 1 1/2 tablespoon oil and 1/2 the garlic in a bowl and mix well to combine and then rub mixture all over the steaks.

  • Step 2: Heat a barbecue hotplate and grill on medium high and cook the steak on the hotplate for 3 to 4 minutes each side for medium, or until cooked to your liking and then transfer to a plate and cover loosely with foil and stand for 5 minutes or rest.

  • Step 3: Meanwhile, toss onion in remaining oil and cook onion on hotplate and pineapple on grill, turning for 2 to 3 minutes or until lightly charred.

  • Step 4: Lightly spray bread slices on both sides with oil and cook bread on grill for 1 to 2 minutes each side or until lightly toaste.

  • Step 5: Combine mayonnaise, lemon juice and remaining garlic in a small bowl and season with salt and pepper.

  • Step 6: Place 1'/2 the bread on serving plates and spread with mayonnaise mixture and then top with pineapple, onion, beetroot, steak and lettuce and drizzle with barbecue sauce.

  • Step 7: Top with the remaining bread slice and serve.
