Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 kilogram apples (6 Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup raisins (sultanas)
  • Thick vanilla custard, to serve
  • FOR CRUMBLE
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (plain)
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 50 grams unsalted butter (cold, chopped)
  • 1/4 cup oats (rolled)
  • 2 tablespoons shredded coconut
  • 2 tablespoons slivered almonds

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 180C.

  • Step 2: Peel and core apples and slice thickly and place in a large saucepan with sugar, juice and cinnamon over a medium heat and cook, stirring for about 10 to 12 minutes, or until apples are just tender.

  • Step 3: Stir in sultanas and then divide evenly among four ovenproof dishes (1 1/4 capacity) and place on an oven tray.

  • Step 4: To make the crumble, combine flour and sugar in a large bowl and rub in butter to form coarse crumbs and then stir in oats, coconut and almonds and sprinkle evenly over the fruit.

  • Step 5: Cook for about 35 minutes or until topping is golden and crisp.

  • Step 6: Serve hot crumbles with vanilla custard.
