Step 1: Place onions in a 2 quart pot.
Step 2: Pour enough wine to cover half of the onions.
Step 3: Add the bay leaf, thyme and salt.
Step 4: Simmer and stir for 25 minutes.
Step 5: Add the cream and bring to a boil; reduce heat and cook until thickened.
Step 6: Remove from heat and stir in the butter. Remove bay leaf and serve.
