Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound ground chuck
  • 1/2 pound ground country sausage
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 (10 3/4) can tomato puree
  • 1 (10 ounce) can Rotel, regular undrained
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf, broken in half
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon beef base (or 1 boullion cube)
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 to 2 slices bacon, finely chopped
  • 1 (16 ounce) can chili beans in sauce, mashed
  • 1 or 2 (15 1/2) cans kidney beans, drained

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large skillet brown ground chuck, sausage, onion and worchestershire sauce. Drain well.

  • Step 2: Transfer browned meat to a 5 quart sauce pan and add all other ingredients, except beans.

  • Step 3: Simmer 1 1/4 hour, stirring occasionally.

  • Step 4: Add beans and simmer 15 minutes more.
