Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • FOR STUFFING
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 123 grams dry instant rice (Minute Rice, 3/4 cup)
  • 1 cup finely chopped yellow onions
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, pressed
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • FOR SAUCE
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped yellow onions
  • 1/2 whole orange (chopped with peel into small pieces, pits removed)
  • 1 whole lemon (juice of )
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (white)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • White raisins, optional (handful of)
  • 3 pound whole cabbage (1 large)
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Core the cabbage and place in a large pot of boiling water, peel off leaves as the cabbage cooks and let the leaves cook until just soft ( 2 or 3 minutes)- remove the leaves and set aside.

  • Step 2: In a very large pot, mix all of the sauce ingredients and bring to a simmer.

  • Step 3: Mix the stuffing ingredients and place about 1/2 cup of stuffing into each leaf ( use the biggest leaves) , roll up then fold over and tuck in the ends.

  • Step 4: Chop up any of the leftover cabbage and place into the simmering sauce.

  • Step 5: Put the rolls into the sauce and let simmer for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally ( make sure the bottom doesnt burn)- you also may put the pot of cabbage into the oven and bake at 325F.
