Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 400 grams ground lamb (mince)
  • 3 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • Turkish bread (cut into 4 and split or 4 Turkish rolls, split)
  • 2/3 cup hummus
  • 125 grams haloumi cheese (thinly sliced)
  • 1 whole tomato (sliced)
  • 1 can (225 gram) sliced beetroot (drained)
  • 1 cup baby rocket leaves

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oil in a large frying pan over moderate heat and cook onion and garlic for 2 minutes or until soft and then add mince and cook, stirring to break up lumps, for 5 minutes or until browned and then add cumin and coriander, cook and stir for 30 seconds or until fragrant.

  • Step 2: Preheat sandwich press.

  • Step 3: For each toastie, place a bread base on a flat work surface and spread with a quarter of the hummus and top with a quarter of each of the mince mixture, haloumi, tomato, beetroot and rocket and top with remaining bread and repeat to make f

  • Step 4: 4 in total.

  • Step 5: Cook in sandwich press, in batches, for 4 minutes or until heated and toasted and cut in half and serve.
