The ingredients are:
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1 egg--beaten
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups white flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cream shortening and sugar; add molasses, egg, salt and mix well.

  • Step 2: Add rest of ingredients; mix well as this makes a stiff dough.

  • Step 3: Roll into balls and roll in extra granulated sugar.

  • Step 4: Bake on ungreased sheet at 350 degrees for 12 minutes (DO NOT flatten balls on the sheet).
