Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (sifted)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 7/8 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups chopped dates (or figs or prunes)
  • 1 cup nut meats (broken)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (confectioner's sugar) or more
  • FOR SIFT INGREDIENTS
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Beat eggs until light and add the sifted sugar gradually. Blend these ingredients until very light.

  • Step 2: Sift the baking powder, salt, ground cloves, cinnamon, and allspice and resift with the flour, and then add the vanilla and beat until well blended.

  • Step 3: Add nuts and chopped fruit.

  • Step 4: Pour batter into greased and floured 9x13" pan.

  • Step 5: Bake at 325' about 25 minutes.

  • Step 6: When cool, cut into bars and roll in powdered sugar.
