Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened, not margarine)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • Orange zest (or lemon, grated peel of)
  • 1/2 cup dates (finely chopped, pitted)
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Wheaties Cereal (whole wheat Wheaties, for instance, flakes or corn flakes, crushed fine)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In large bowl cream the butter, sugar, vanilla and salt until fluffy.

  • Step 2: Add egg and beat well. Stir in orange peel and dates.

  • Step 3: Gradually stir in flour until blended.

  • Step 4: Wrap dough airtight by covering bowl with wax paper held in place by a rubber band and chill 1 hour or more, even overnight.

  • Step 5: Pinch off walnut-size pieces of dough. Roll each piece to a 4-1/2"-long rope, then roll it in cereal.

  • Step 6: Shape these rolls into wreaths, pinching the ends together.

  • Step 7: Put on lightly greased cookie sheet, 1 inch apart.

  • Step 8: Bake in preheated 350' oven 12-14 minutes or until light brown.

  • Step 9: Remove to a rack to cool.
