Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 to 1 1/2 pounds red cabbage (1/2 cabbage)
  • 3 teaspoons butter
  • 1 yellow onion (chopped)
  • 1 apple (Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 bay leaves

How to Make

  • Step 1: Remove outside leaves of cabbage.

  • Step 2: With a sharp knife, chop cabbage into small pieces. Throw into colander and rinse.

  • Step 3: In large stove top pot with lid, melt 2 teaspoons of butter at medium-high.

  • Step 4: Add onion to pan and sauté.

  • Step 5: Add chopped cabbage to pan.

  • Step 6: Peel apples, chop and add to pan.

  • Step 7: Combine water with vinegar, add brown sugar and bay leaves and stir.

  • Step 8: Pour liquid over cabbage mixture.

  • Step 9: Bring mixture to a boil then cover and reduce heat to a low simmer for 25-35 minutes.
