Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup (light)
  • 1 loaf (14 to 16 ounce) French bread (country or French bread, cut into 1 inch thick slices)
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons liqueur (brandy-based orange liqueur, Grand Marnier or triple sec)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

How to Make

  • Step 1: Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat, add brown sugar and corn syrup stirring until sugar is well dissolved and smooth, pour into a 9x13 baking dish

  • Step 2: Remove crusts from bread, in a single layer using the larger slices first arrange in baking dish assuring complete coverage

  • Step 3: In small mixing bowl whisk together eggs, half and half, vanilla extract, orange-based brandy liqueur and salt, pour evenly over bread, cover and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight

  • Step 4: In morning remove from fridge uncover and bring to room temperature

  • Step 5: Preheat oven to 350, bake uncovered about 35 – 40 minutes until puffed and edges are light gold
