Step 1: In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar.
Step 2: Beat in egg yolk, cream and vanilla.
Step 3: Combine the flour and baking powder; gradually add to creamed mixture.
Step 4: Stir in finely chopped pecans.
Step 5: Roll into 3/4-in. balls.
Step 6: In a small bowl, beat egg white.
Step 7: Dip balls in egg white, then roll in additional pecans.
Step 8: Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets.
Step 9: Using the end of a wooden spoon handle, make an indentation in the center of each ball.
Step 10: Top each ball with a cherry half or fill with jelly.
Step 11: Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned.
Step 12: Carefully remove to wire racks to cool.
