Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Set oven rack to second-lowest position. Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
Step 2: In a large bowl beat the eggs on high speed of an electric mixer until thick and lemon-colored. (important — beat no less than 5 minutes, the mixture must be thick).
Step 3: Gradually add sugar beating until mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla.
Step 4: In a bowl combine the flour and baking powder; gradually add to batter beating at at low speed until smooth.
Step 5: In a small saucepan heat milk and butter just until butter is melted; gradually add to batter; beat just until combined.
Step 6: Pour into baking pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until cake tests done.
