Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cup icing sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup jam
  • FOR ICING
  • 2 cups icing sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (plus 1 teaspoon)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Thoroughly mix butter, sugar, eggs and flavorings.

  • Step 2: Blend in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. If dough is too soft, chill 1 hr.

  • Step 3: Heat oven to 375 and divide dough into 12 equal parts.

  • Step 4: On lightly greased baking sheet, shape each portion into a rectangle. Using a wooden spoon handle, make a furrow lengthwise down the center of each rectangle.

  • Step 5: Spread 1 teaspoon jam in each furrow.

  • Step 6: Bake 10 minutes.

  • Step 7: Combine all icing ingredients in bowl, and mix till smooth. Set aside, covered, till ready to use.

  • Step 8: Cool on baking sheet 2 minutes, before removing.

  • Step 9: Cookies can be cut into smaller cookies if desired.

  • Step 10: When cool drizzle with icing.
