  • 1 shallot, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, crushed
  • 1/4 cup mild salsa
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1/2 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper
  • 4 pita bread, shells

How to Make

  • Step 1: Place ground beef, shallot and garlic in a large skillet over medium heat.

  • Step 2: Cook until beef is evenly browned.

  • Step 3: Drain off any grease.

  • Step 4: Stir the salsa, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce into the beef mixture.

  • Step 5: Season with salt and pepper.

  • Step 6: Heat to a simmer over low heat, and cook until thoroughly heated, stirring frequently to prevent it from burning on the bottom.

  • Step 7: Spoon the mixture into the pita shells.

  • Step 8: Top with lettuce if you like.
