The ingredients are:
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Granulated sugar

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine shortening, brown sugar, egg and molasses

  • Step 2: Blend in remaining ingredients, except granulated sugar

  • Step 3: Cover and chill 1 hr

  • Step 4: Heat oven to 375

  • Step 5: Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls

  • Step 6: Dip tops of balls in granulated sugar and place sugared side up on an ungreased baking sheet, up to 3 inches apart

  • Step 7: Bake 10 to 12 minutes or just until set

  • Step 8: Immediately remove from sheet
