Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Food color (yellow, green, orange)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons grated lime peel
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons grated orange peel
  • Colored sugars (yellow, green, orange)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Thoroughly mix butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla

  • Step 2: Add flour, and salt. Mix well

  • Step 3: Divide dough into 3 equal parts

  • Step 4: To the first portion add yellow coloring and lemon peel. Mix well

  • Step 5: To the second portion add green coloring and lime peel. Mix well

  • Step 6: To the third portion add orange coloring and orange peel.

  • Step 7: Leave the fourth portion plain

  • Step 8: Wrap each portion and refrigerate 1 hour

  • Step 9: Shape each colored portion into a roll, 2 inch in diameter and 4 inches long

  • Step 10: Divide the plain portion into 3 equal parts and roll each out into a 6x4 inch rectangle

  • Step 11: Wrap one plain rectangle around each colored roll, pressing firmly together.

  • Step 12: Roll each log in matching colored sugar

  • Step 13: Wrap and chill 4 hours

  • Step 14: Heat oven to 400

  • Step 15: Cut rolls into 1/8 inch slices

  • Step 16: Place on ungreased baking sheet

  • Step 17: Cut each slice in half

  • Step 18: Bake 6 to 8 minutes or until light brown

  • Step 19: Immediately remove from baking sheet
