  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • FOR CHOCOLATE ICING
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 cups icing sugar

How to Make

  • Step 1: Mix thoroughly butter, sugar, egg, cocoa, buttermilk, and vanilla.

  • Step 2: Mix in flour, baking soda, salt, and nuts. Chill 1 hour.

  • Step 3: Preheat oven to 400.

  • Step 4: To make icing: melt 2 chocolate with butter over low heat. Remove from heat and add in water and 2 cups icing sugar. Mix well.

  • Step 5: Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet.

  • Step 6: Bake 10 minutes or until almost no imprint remains when touched with a finger.

  • Step 7: Immediately remove from baking sheet.

  • Step 8: Cool and spread with icing.
