  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • 4 drops yellow food coloring (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Thoroughly mix sugar, cornstarch and salt in a saucepan.

  • Step 2: Gradually stir in the water.

  • Step 3: Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute.

  • Step 4: Remove from heat and add in lemon peel and butter.

  • Step 5: Gradually stir in lemon juice and food coloring.

  • Step 6: Cool and use to fill 8 or 9 inch cake.
