Ingredients

  • 2 packages (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup water, warm
  • 1 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 5 1/2 to 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons instant coffee
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped

How to Make

  • Step 1: Dissolve yeast in Warm water.

  • Step 2: Add buttermilk, eggs, 2 1/2 cup flour, butter, sugar, baking powder and salt. Mix till smooth.

  • Step 3: Add enough remaining dough to make dough easily handled. Dough will remain soft and slightly sticky.

  • Step 4: Turn out onto well floured surface and knead 5 minutes.

  • Step 5: Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls and dip into butter.

  • Step 6: Combine sugar and coffee.

  • Step 7: Roll dough balls into coffee-sugar mixture.

  • Step 8: Place dough balls in a greased tube pan.

  • Step 9: Let rise until doubled.

  • Step 10: Bake at 375 60 minutes.

  • Step 11: If browning too quickly, cover with aluminum foil.

  • Step 12: Invert pan onto plate so syrup can drizzle over cake.

  • Step 13: To serve break apart with 2 forks.
