  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 4 to 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 Italian sausage meat (spicy)
  • 3/4 cup long grain rice (dry)
  • 1 head cabbage (medium head, chopped, core removed)
  • 1 can (28 ounce) diced tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 1/2 cups V8 vegetable juice
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large pot, brown the ground beef, Italian sausage meat with onion and garlic.

  • Step 2: Stir in chopped cabbage and let cook until slightly softened (about 3 minutes).

  • Step 3: Add all remaining ingredients, bring to a boil and reduced heat to medium low. Cover and simmer on low until rice is fully cooked (about 25-30 minutes)

  • Step 4: Remove bay leaf and serve.
