Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 packages (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup water, warm
  • 1/2 cup milk, warm
  • 1/4 cup mashed potatoes (warm)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup citron
  • 4 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • FOR GLAZE
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons water, cold
  • FOR ICING
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

How to Make

  • Step 1: Dissolve yeast in warm water.

  • Step 2: Stir in milk, potatoes, sugar, salt, butter, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins, citron and 2 1/2 cups flour. Beat until smooth.

  • Step 3: Mix in remaining flour to form soft dough.

  • Step 4: Turn dough onto lightly floured board, knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.

  • Step 5: Place in greased bowl; turn greased side up. Cover; let rise in warm place until double, about 1 1/2 hours.

  • Step 6: Punch down dough; divide in half.

  • Step 7: Cut each half into 16 pieces.

  • Step 8: Shape into a smooth balls and place about 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet.

  • Step 9: With scissors, snip a cross on top of each bun. Cover; let rise until double, about 40 minutes.

  • Step 10: Heat over to 375°.

  • Step 11: Beat egg yolk and water to make glaze and brush tops of buns

  • Step 12: Bake about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Step 13: Combine all icing ingredients and mix till smooth, When buns are cool, frost crosses on tops of buns with icing.
