  • 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cup water, warm
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons dried onion (instant minced onion)
  • 2 tablespoons shortening (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add onion.

  • Step 2: Add shortening, sugar, salt and 2 cups flour, mix well.

  • Step 3: Add remaining flour and mix till smooth.

  • Step 4: Cover and let rise until double, roughly 30 min.

  • Step 5: Stir down batter and spread evenly in a greased loaf pan, smoothing out top by patting with floured hands.

  • Step 6: Cover and let rise till double, about 40 min.

  • Step 7: Heat oven to 375.

  • Step 8: Bake 45 min or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

  • Step 9: Brush top with melted butter.
